Biographie

GERALD GASDE
was born 1935 in Kreuzburg/Oberschlesien. Due to the 2nd world war and postwar disorientation he happened to end up in Franconias (an area within Bavaria). The first important steps in his life as his schooldays, the apprenticeship and also his wedding took place in Nuernberg-Fuert. Being an engraver master he worked throughout whole Germany until he finally settled down on the Reichenau island in 1972.

His first art exhibition took place at the University of Constance. Further exhibitions followed within the area of the Lake of Constance, Switzerland, Franconias and even in France. At an early stage especially his graphic talent was recognized. But he also worked with other techniques as e.g. Oil, acryl, tempera, water colour, and airbrush, with several print graphic techniques like copper engraving, blind imprinting, Aquatint and lithography.

Also three-dimensional techniques using wood and other materials are present in his repertoire. Quotation: "The artist Gerald Gasde is an aesthete, who puts perspicuity in his forms and colours".
He astonishes with his versatility of different adaptation and perception in a crossfire of topics.

Gasde is an "Augenmensch" an human being who gets inspired by any structures, which come across to him on his excursions and wanderings. Washed up wood, stones, leaves with their shapes and colours he integrates in his constructions. Although he is able to draw life likely, he also can be dedicated to the constructive artists but can cope with Surrealism as well. His impressions he prescinds on
geometrical basic shapes, which on their own do have a special charm. Suddenly there is a dynamic, including a swirl of lines building up a fascinating image. The image is getting very profound by
the dispose of very canny and sensible colours, which automatically captivates the viewer.

Gerald Gasde is achieving finest colours and smooth transitions with his spray gun. The artist himself states: "I am especially interested in shape, colour, and the profoundness.

Altogether he is an extremely versatile artist. He drew also many portraits of socialites, who personally signed them, e.g. Herbert of Karajan, Ronald Reagan, Richard von Weizsaecker, Margret Thatcher, etc. Although Gasde is living and working at the Lake of Constance he still not yet addicted to the suasiveness of this landscape; at least you can not see it in his pictures.
